Where are the women? Gender roles in comics set in Balearic Prehistory
Abstract
The comic is a powerful transmitter of socio-cultural and ideological messages, ideas and values, so it can contribute to the reinforcement or weakening of the current patriarchal system. Thus, those comics that address the prehistoric period —which is considered the period where certain human behaviors and attitudes originate— must take responsibility and avoid the transmission of biased gender discourses that are not based on archaeological evidence and contribute to the justification and naturalization of the inequalities and discriminations that women suffer at present. This project aims to analyse the gender discourses transmitted by some comics set in the Balearic prehistoric period from a feminist theoretical stance and a critical point of view.
