Abstract

INTRODUCTION:

Retrorectal tumors are a heterogeneous entity made up of multiple possible histological types. Presacral ganglioneuromas are a rare histological type in this location, but they are included in the differential diagnosis of retrorectal tumors.

PRESENTATION OF THE CASE:

We present the case of a 40-year-old woman with an 8-year history of abdominal distension, perianal discomfort and small stools, with diagnosis after imaging and pathological analysis of presacral ganglioneuroma. Given the persistence of the symptoms, laparoscopic excision of the lesion was performed.

CONCLUSION:

Presacral ganglioneuromas are rare tumors, usually diagnosed in women between the ages of 10 and 30. They are slow-growing but benign lesions. Malignant degeneration or recurrence after resection is rare. The transabdominal approach for the treatment of these lesions is feasible and increasingly used given the development of the minimally invasive surgical approach.
