Abstract

Medical on-call shifts in Spain began with interns working unsupervised and unpaid. In the 1970s, they gained remuneration, but with the trap of the "complementary hour," underpaid and not counting toward retirement. Even today, the system exploits medical vocation, demanding sacrifices without ensuring fair working conditions, making urgent reform necessary.
