The article analyses the day after the 1977 elections in Menorca, when its inhabitants began to recover coexistence in freedom and were able to count on their own senator, Guillermo de Olives of the UCD, who would be a key player in achieving the Balearic pre-autonomy project. The study is framed within the construction of the political parties of the centre-right in Menorca, their divergences and aspirations, both in the face of the autonomic challenge and towards the new Constitution, confirming that the commitment to democracy was inseparably linked to the demand for autonomy.
