Abstract

During the Democratic Sexennium (1868-1874) the Labor Movement appeared in the Balearic Islands and within it the Libertarian Movement. From its origins linked to the federal republicanism and marked by an ideologically undefined workerism, it evolved into the Bakuninism of the First International (1864-1876). Active internationalist centers were created in Mallorca and Menorca. After 1874, the libertarian movement went through a long phase of inactivity on the Islands, with some of its members integrating into other labor initiatives. Finally, between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, the Libertarian Movement re-emerged in the Islands and the CNT was formed.
